M:ST is looking for a copywriter to join our team as we work towards the launch of our new publication ISSAY! magazine.
Hours: 30 hours total
Compensation: $1,050 or $35/hr
Location: Remote - Mohkinstsís/Calgary
ISSAY! is a free, digitally accessible arts magazine that exists at the intersection between mediums and localities. We prioritize the works of marginalized creatives and offer this publication as a space where communities have agency to tell their stories. For issue 1 of ISSAY! we are curating a selection of works that span genres, and are seeking a creative addition to our editorial team to bring these stories to life.
As a copy editor, you will work with the Editorial Intern to edit drafts from contributing writers in order to ensure consistency and quality. You are detail oriented, bring a high caliber of proofreading skills, and seek clarity in your work. This position is perfect for someone who is creative, organized, enjoys literature, and has great communication skills.Please note: this is a remote position. Specific hours of work are at the discretion of the copy editor with consultation from the Editorial Intern.
Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread drafts from contributors for ISSAY! magazine
- Exercise quality control to ensure the highest standards of style and writing (grammar, spelling, syntax, diction, and punctuation)
- Assist in the preparation of material for publicationWork with the Editorial Intern to proof and/or evolve the style guide as necessary
- Ensure creative feedback and other revisions have been applied correctly
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience editing and/or proofreading communications in a digital publication or creative environment.
- A solid understanding and grounding in grammar, usage, style, and punctuation.
- Strong knowledge of usage guides, including The Chicago Manual of Style.
