This performance work utilizes three components: performance, digital imaging, and video animation. Iranian-Canadian artist Afshin Matlabi performed the Japanese national anthem and lecture on the characteristics of nationalism in the global age. His performance conjures notions of patriotism, nationality, and identity within an international context. In this work, Matlabi distinguishes the position between global nations and reveals a multi-faceted understanding of international survival.

Afshin Matlabi is a Montreal-based artist who has exhibited his printmedia and installation work extensively across Canada.
