The Movement Movement creates temporary public art works and participatory social projects by conducting runs in art institutions around the world. Past runs have been held at the Royal Ontario Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, and the Toronto Alternative Art Fair International. By running situations in which impromptu community forms, new and unexpected relationships occur between people and place in the public sphere. Here, social change is not only imagined but put into practice: if we can run a museum together what else can we run as a social body? For M:ST 4, Glenbow Museum becomes the subject, material, and site of the group’s practice, as they mobilize a team of 200 runners to infiltrate one of Calgary’s best known cultural institutions.
The Movement Movement is artist/curator Jessica Rose and dancer/choreographer Jenn Goodwin. Jessica Rose is the art director for Toronto Life magazine. Jenn Goodwin is one of the key organizers of Nuit Blanche Toronto. The Movement Movement is based in Toronto, Canada.
