Viewing art as a tool for communication, Tom Brown is interested in the interactions that can take place between artists and their audiences. Dealing with ontological questions such as: “Who are we? How do we know what is real?” and through engaging the body, the artist seeks to answer these types of questions by addressing the conditions of the body and its relationship to food.
For his interactive performance, Feeding the Masses, artist Tom Brown will set up his miniature kitchen as a freestanding anti-environment in a public space to cook food for willing passersby. The food will be served in miniature take-out containers hand-made by the artist.
Tom Brown is a recent graduate of the Alberta College of Art + Design’s Drawing Department. He has participated in a group exhibition and residency in Cape Town, South Africa (2015), as well as several other exhibitions in Calgary at ACAD. His current project, Feeding the Masses, is an ongoing performance, taking place at various locations throughout the city.
