The Cedar Tavern Singers, also known as “Les Phonorealistes” consider their work both a folk rock band and tongue-in-cheek art project. While creating catchy tunes, they convey the artistic condition and deliver art history education. Much of their work combines pop culture and conceptual art. The piece “Art Is All Over! (If You Want It)” draws inspiration from John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “War Is Over! (If You Want It!)”.The piece brings forth questions of whether art is at last a part of daily life, or whether art can be ended everywhere.
Mary Ann McTrowe received her MFA from Concordia University in 2001. Daniel Wong received his MFA from the University of Western Ontario, London, in 2006. The two artists united in 2006 to fight the good fight and sing the good song (and occasionally the bad song).
