Dear friends of M:ST,

M:ST Performative Art staff and board would like to share a brief update concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and how it will impact our responsibility to our community and programming.

Office Hours:
M:ST’s Directors will continue to work and answer emails and phone calls, however our office and the entire CommunityWise Resource Centre is closed to the public until further notice.

Upcoming programming:
Two of our upcoming M:ST 10 Biennial Residency Exchanges have been postponed until further notice. This includes Halie Finney’s residency at Catalyst Arts in Northern Ireland in partnership with The New Gallery, as well as Brennagh Meehan’s residency in Calgary in partnership with Catalyst Arts, both of which were originally scheduled for early April. We are uncertain of how this may affect our future residencies as each country’s response to the pandemic is unique. We will keep everyone informed of major changes to the residencies and M:ST 10 Biennial schedule.

Since last year M:ST has partnered with Bogdan Cheta on his project The Blue Light, located on the main floor of CommunityWise. This project has also been put on hold. You can read Bogdan’s thoughtful statement regarding the postponement here.

Furthermore, as gesture of solidarity and a response to widely cancelled arts events and a lack of paid opportunities in the midst of the pandemic, M:ST is opening a call for submissions for a series of isolation-minded performative artworks to be streamed online, starting as soon as we receive submissions. This is a paid opportunity open to the anyone, anywhere who has been affected by COVID-19. It is intended to encourage art-making, conversation, and getting paid from within the isolation, quarantine, and lockdown measures that we’re collectively facing. Read the full call for submissions here.

We are thankful for your understanding while we digest and respond to these disorienting new circumstances. If you have any questions or just want to chat, don't hesitate to reach out:

Take care,

Desiree Nault, Artistic Director

Jordan Schinkel, Engagement + Operations Director
