Eshan Rafi (born Lahore, Pakistan) works in video, code, text, and performance. Taking up complex intersections of race, power, and history, they construct queerly divergent worldviews. Rafi has been a resident at HATCH: Undisciplined Performance at the Harbourfront Center in Toronto, Canada and at the Artist Research Laboratory led by Yvonne Rainer at Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como, Italy. Their artworks have been recognized by numerous awards and scholarships, and presented at Beirut Art Center (Beirut, Lebanon), nGBK (Berlin, Germany), and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (Toronto, Canada), among others.
Eshan Rafi (né à Lahore, Pakistan) travaille à partir de la vidéo, du code, du texte et de la performance. À partir de croisements complexes de races, de pouvoir et d’histoire, l’œuvre construit de façon queer des visions du monde divergentes. Rafi a fait une résidence à HATCH : Undisciplined Performance, au Harbourfront Centre de Toronto et au Artist Research Laboratory dirigé par Yvonne Rainer à la Fondazione Antonio Ratti à Côme, en Italie. Son travail s’est mérité plusieurs prix et bourses d’études et a notamment été présenté au Beirut Art Centre (Beyrouth, Liban), au nGBK (Berlin, Allemagne) et au Musée d’art contemporain canadien (Toronto, Canada). Rafi détient un baccalauréat en beaux-arts et un baccalauréat en enseignement de l’Université York. Il a aussi été boursier du Home Workspace Program 2014-2015 à l’Association libanaise pour les arts plastiques Achkal Alwan, Beyrouth.
